It seems like more and more truck campers are popping up in the overland community these days. Granted pop-up campers have been around almost as long as four wheel drive trucks, but they seem to be attracting new customers. Surprisingly, despite their presence on brand new trucks, most are pretty old school; inside and out.
But appearance aside; you definitely can’t deny their utility. In a matter of minutes they can transform the pickup in your driveway into a house on wheels. When not in use, a camper is easily removed allowing owners to use their overland truck for hauling, moving friends, and daily driver duty. On the other side of the coin a truck camper provides amenities you’re not likely to find in a 100 Series Landcruiser.
For the most part choices have been pretty limited in the low profile pop-up truck camper market. Especially if you’re looking for a more refined product.
For those overlanders and adventurers, primarily Toyota Tacoma owners, waiting in the wings for another option… wait no longer.
A well-known overland company just threw their proverbial hat in the ring. And, the hat looks good; damn good in fact. EarthCruiser’s GZL appears to be exactly what the market is missing. The Bend, Oregon (and Australia) based company’s new camper is sleek; inside and out.
The streamlined exterior appears robust and comes equipped with a nice spot for a full size spare tire, reminiscent of expedition vehicles few can afford. Inside, you’ll find a contemporary finish with clean lines and plenty of headroom.
Overall, the GZL looks outstanding and we hope to hear that the roof mechanism will be able to support a bit of weight. For more detailed photos, specifications and information about the EarthCruiser GZL please visit the EarthCruiser website.
