Wallets you’ll find in department stores are rarely anything special. More often than not they’re overpriced, outsourced, and lack creativity. If you’re anything like us you prefer something with a cool backstory, a conversation piece, something lasts for decades. But, like us you’re also not going to drop a hundred bucks on any wallet… no matter how cool it is, or claims to be. That’s why we embarked on a journey to find wallets that meet the needs of like-minded amateur adventurers. Here are three of our favorites.
Vanguard Sailcloth Wallets from FlowFold
Wallets designed by surfers and made, in the USA, from the same fabric used in racing sailboats. What’s not to like. Well, when you see the price and read the reviews we’re confident that you’ll jump aboard, and grab a Flowfold for yourself. They’re very, very tough. A great conversation piece. Weigh next to nothing; about as much as three sheets of 8.5×11 copy paper. And, best of all they’re very low profile. Currently there are about seven color options in this version. In our experience the Vanguard will carry about a half dozen cards and a few bills before getting too bloated. If you think this wallet will float your boat; we highly recommend picking one up as soon as possible.
-Stronger than steel. Made from repurposed racing sails
-2 credit card slots, 2 ID holder windows and a long cash pocket
-Made in the USA. Designed by surfers and handmade on the coast of Maine
-Built to last and backed by the Flowfold warranty
Titanium Wallets by Machine Era
More of a minimalist? Perhaps a bit more industrial? These great looking wallets are also designed and manufactured right here in the US. In the state of Virginia to be specific. Constructed of lightweight corrosion-proof Titanium, these wallets feature a bottle opener and room for seven cards and a few bills. They claim to give a bit of protection from RFID scanning bad guys, but we were sold when they dropped the words “aerospace grade titanium.” Oh, and the bottle opener slot also allows you to deploy an ID or card with the flick of your thumb. If you’re a minimalist currently using a rubber band as a “wallet” this piece of everyday carry gear art is for you.
-Made in USA
-Holds up to 7 cards
-Made from Corrision Proof Aerospace Grade Titanium
-Built in Thumb Slot + Bottle Opener
-RFID Protection + Ultra-light + Ultra-durable. Weighs Just 0.6oz
Baurdi Admiral Leather Billfold Wallets
If traditional billfold wallets are more your style, but you want something that’s both durable and water resistant check out this wallet. It’s made from 100 percent full grain leather by Baurdi. The wallet holds plenty of cash and cards, looks great, and is very well crafted. Our favorite part, it feels much more expensive than its price would suggest. It is the most expensive of the three wallets we chose to share, but still a great value. Especially when you take it out of the box the first time and see the stitching and feel the leather.
-Four Card Slots Holding Up To Three Cards Per Slot, Plus One Cash Pocket
-Attractive Color And Style – Ready To Make A Lasting Impression
-Hearty Feel In Your Hand, Yet Supple And Buttery-Soft To The Touch
-Slim Profile – Don’t Sacrifice Comfort In Your Pocket
-Highly Durable And Water Resistant
